Sverige i fokus · chapter 11

Sweden and the wider world

This chapter is about Sweden's relations with the wider world. Sweden has been a member of the EU since 1995 and takes part in its lawmaking, but kept the krona after the 2003 referendum on the euro. Cooperation with the other Nordic countries is close, and Sweden is a UN member and a contributor to international aid. The country depends heavily on foreign trade. After many years of non-alignment, Sweden joined NATO in 2024.
